Trains have run in the Cleveland Flats since the 1880s transporting coal from Cleveland, Akron and Canton to and providing passenger service along the way.
Flats Industrial Railroad recently acquired its rails and right-of-way within the Flats and still operates the Class III Short Line railroad as the Flats Industrial Railroad Company. As such, many of these draw bridges are still in use today and if you arrive at the right time, you can see them rise or swing depending the style of bridge.
