Artist's Description

The Mission San Francisco de la Espada is one of the oldest in the chain of missions in San Antonio. When I saw this, I wanted to capture the weathered facade of this still active mission. I knew it would have to be done in black and white to show the wonderful textures of the arch, the door and the stone. I knew I had to capture the cross on the left side to help signify the simple expectations of the original town settlers. I can just picture early settlers walking into this mission back in 1731.

My goal as a photographer is to capture that unique moment in time and be able to tell that story successfully with a photograph. As an engineer working in the aerospace world, everything has to be perfect and exacting. My approach to photography is no different. As I look through the viewfinder I am constantly thinking how it could be, or how it could be improved. Originally from Cleveland Ohio, I am now a Texas based photographer specializing in...
