The Union Band cemetery was created in 1891 when 1 1/2 acres of land was donated to the trustees of the Union Band Missionary Baptist Church. It is located in southwest San Saba County in the small town of Pontotoc, Texas. The earliest marked grave is the infant son of Steve and Helen Jennings. The origins of this name is said to be derived from longtime residents banding together of former Union Soldiers with local citizens to establish the church and cemetery. This is Texas, I didn't know there were any Union soldiers here....
